My Name is Tswale..
In one of the early chapters of my adventurous life, my big sister, Modjaji, and I, were rescued from being culled in Limpopo.
This led to us participating in a program to train elephants, with the intention of making educational elephant interactions possible. It was there that we met our human – Amos, who started out as a volunteer in 2004. My sister recognized a very precious heart in Amos, and she chose him as our human – a choice that would have lasting ramifications for all of us. You can read more about our journey together here.
A tragic accident in August of 2022 resulted in our unexpected relocation, and today, Amos and I have made our home at Lowhills, where we hope to stay forever. If you would like to know more about how you can help us do that, please read more here.
Tragedy has led us here, but we are turning our story into one of triumph. Humans are very special to me, and in this season, I am excited to be an ambassador for my species. To meet new people, and to help people understand how amazing and intelligent elephants really are, and how inextricably entwined the futures of both humans and elephants are.
So, I am inviting you to come and meet me in person, and bring your favorite people too – I would love to meet you all! In this new season of my life, I am as free and as happy as an elephant can be, and I am no longer required to perform tricks or endure being ridden. I just get to be me, and to enjoy being an elephant in the wild. Of course, I can never be released into the wild with other elephants because of my history with humans (and especially after the trauma of the attack on us), but I don’t mind – I love humans and look forward to our interactions, just as much as I enjoy swimming in my dam, and rolling in the mud, as the butterflies dance around me.
You can book your special educational elephant interaction with me here , and I believe meeting you will be so special, that neither of us will ever forget it.
